Our Purpose
Since 1981, ABATE’s purpose has been to represent the large energy user viewpoint on energy and utility issues before all appropriate governmental bodies and other pertinent organizations which affect energy pricing, reliability, sustainability, and terms and conditions of service in Michigan.
ABATE’s regulatory involvement has helped drastically reduce Michigan’s electricity rates and natural gas delivery rates. ABATE continues its mission in securing reasonable rates in the face of substantial cost increases.
What we do
Maintain a persistent and active voice at the Michigan Public Service Commission which sets energy rates, the terms and conditions of service which ultimately affects the reliability and availability of power.
Represent members’ interests in front of the Michigan Legislature to ensure passed legislation is balanced and leads to affordable and reliable energy.
Participate in cases before the Michigan Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court to ensure the interests of industrial customers are protected.
Participate as a member of the End-User Customer sector of the Midwest Independent System Operator (MISO).
Intervene in FERC proceedings that may impact costs allocated to Michigan through wholesale market transactions related to sales and transmission.
Communicate ABATE’s views to regulators, government officials, and the public through press releases, meetings, and lobby efforts.
